| The Bernadettes started out in the early 1990s as a traditional-style blues band, covering songs by the likes of John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, as well as later bluesmen like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. But the band soon began experimenting with their own unique versions of R&B classics from James Brown, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and their contemporaries. This evolved further with the addition of classic Motown hits, contemporary funk, soul, and R&B flavored rock songs to their large and varied, dance-oriented song list. The resulting mix has become the staple of the band's offering to live audiences. Continuous appearances at a variety of venues have established the Bernadettes as one of the area's premier live acts. They were voted the best rhythm and blues band in the New Haven Advocate "Sounds of New Haven" 1996 readers poll, and also chosen by that paper as New Haven's #1 bar band. A constantly growing songlist, matched with the band's frenetic brand of soul, make for a memorable evening for anyone who wants to move their feet and dance to the beat. |
Nu Magazine first introduced you to very talented and charismatic members of The Bernadettes Band in
our issue . We were there to party down once again with The Bernadettes as they performed to yet
another standing room only crowd at J.roos in North Haven Saturday night!
The band was a huge hit with the owner and regulars at J.rros from the their first appearance there on
January 26th and although this band enjoys capacity crowds everywhere they play, they were "Humbled
by the huge show of appreciation and support at our J. Roos show" and "Surprised by all of our long time
friends and fans from all over the greater New Haven area, Bridgeport, and even Litchfield County who
came out...especially those friends all of ours from way back in the 90's who came out to party down."
J.roos Restaurant & Bar located at 249 State Street, North Haven, Connecticut offers a warm, friendly
and relaxed atmosphere well known for their tasty pizzas, great wings and Italian-American dishes.
Owner Sal Mazzaro has been providing great food and quality weekend entertainment at his restaurant &
bar for the past six years and has never charged his patrons a cover for the entertainment he provides.
The Bernadettes will perform regularly at J.roos throughout the year. The Bernadettes are available for
